Sustainable Uitama

Uitama's mission is to lead families into nature, as we sincerely believe that wandering in the forest, marshes, parks, or by the sea offers grounding that contributes positively to the mental and physical well-being of each family member. To sustainably preserve the beauty of nature for future generations, we prioritize environmentally friendly practices in all our endeavours.

Therefore, we carefully choose partners for our shirt production whose supply chains, materials, and printing inks are certified by independent organizations and standards. This ensures a healthy result for both the planet and its inhabitants.

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the leading worldwide standard for the production of organic fibres. Based on both ecological and social criteria, it is the most stringent certification for organic cotton. It guarantees that cotton is organically grown without the use of genetically modified seeds or dangerous chemicals. It also ensures traceability from post-harvesting of the raw material to the final customer, including transaction certificates at every stage of production.

Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX ® is one of the world’s best-known standards for the assessment of harmful substances in fabrics. Our Stanley/Stella shirts are certified by Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®, ensuring that the textiles are processed without harmful chemicals detrimental to human health and the environment. Standard 100 also prohibits certain potentially harmful substances even where these are not yet legally banned, and it guarantees that our products comply with the EU REACH regulation.

Stanley/Stella shirts are also ‘PETA-Approved’, which means that they do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and pledge never to do so. These t-shirts are made from 100% vegan materials and 0% animal fibres, ensuring that no harm is caused to animals.

Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is an independent organisation that works with apparel brands, garment workers and textile industry influencers to improve labour conditions in garment factories. FWF carries out audits in our partner factories on a regular basis, and establishes Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) where needed to ensure workers’ rights and safe, dignified, and properly paid employment. Additionally, the label also provides peace of mind that child labor has not been used. The manufacturer of Uitama shirts has been a member of FWF since 2012.

Uitama shirts are produced in Estonia using environmentally friendly water-based PERMATONE screen printing inks, made with 100% renewable energy and non-toxic ingredients. Our printing partner exclusively utilizes these inks, ensuring that the shirts never come into contact with chemically laden printing inks.

PERMATONE has been granted Approval by the Soil Association in the UK (the Soil Association in the UK), having successfully met the requirements of the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS) for non-organic chemical inputs for use in organic textile processing.

The ink used for printing Uitama shirts is safe to use even for underwear, swimwear, and baby clothes (for infants under 2 years of age).

In addition, these inks are vegan. The manufacturer of the colors does not commission animal testing for ingredients or finished products. Plant-based ingredients are certified non-genetically modified organisms (GMO-free).

Our inks do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFCs, HCFCs, aromatic hydrocarbons or volatile solvents. They are also free of lead, heavy metals and toxic chemicals.
